Philosophy of The Wholefood Farmacy
Around 400 B.C., the great philosopher, Hippocrates, coined the timeless phrase, “Let your food be your medicine and let your medicine be your food.” This philosophical truth has endured the ages with not only its time honored roots of wisdom, but also into the laboratories of modern empirical science.
Around 2000 A.D., Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, a celebrated oncologist in New York City proclaimed,” We have seen the future and the future is food.” This proclamation echoes the age tested wisdom of Hippocrates and other great teachers and learners.
And of course in your own recollections of history, you probably heard your grandmother, mother, wife, or best friend espousing these same perpetual truths. Only, for them, there were no accolades, titles, or sadly even recognitions concerning their knowledge. They simply said, “Eat your vegetables.”
So whether you’re attracted to the wisdom of the ancients, the science of modern times, or the love of your grandmother et al, it might just be that the Wholefood Farmacy is the place for your and your family.
The Wholefood Farmacy embraces its deeply rooted philosophy of health in the time tested truths of fresh air, sunshine, exercise, passion and of course whole food dining. Whole foods offer the entire spectrum of the substantive sustenance with which to nourish, maintain, strengthen, and soothe our bodies, minds, and emotions. With this nurturing, come the lifting of spirits, resolve, and hopes. We at the Wholefood Farmacy recognize the power of whole foods and have determined to present them to as many as will listen; to offer these victuals to as many as will embrace them; and to extend service to all that we might.
“Kings of the Hill”……??????
Who would have guessed it? Oh you guessed it! Yes, once again we must congratulate Adrian Goad of Smyrna, TN for being the King of the Hill. However, there was a glitch and Adrian ’s bid was received in an untimely manner. In the meantime we had already announced that Phil Zeitler of Largo , FL was the first place winner. What to do? In the spirit of fair play and in keeping with our motto that at the Wholefood Farmacy, “You will either be Happy OR you will be Happy!” , we decided to award two first place winners. So congratulations to the two Kings of the Hill. Second Place goes to Lisa Jelinek of Douglas, AZ. Third place winners are Melissa Crandall of Los Angeles, CA ; Nadine Anderson of Aberdeen SD ; and Dr. James D. Treadwell, Jr. of Gatekeepers Ministries of Pennsauken NJ .Congratulations to all of the December 2005 winners.
America ’s Worst Foods
Occasionally, we must face the sad reality that not all of
America ’s food producers are interested in our health. They produce foods that produce huge profits with little or no consideration to the actual nutritional value of the product that they so convincingly market to an uninformed public. Let’s see what some of these foods and/or ingredients are:
Hydrogenated fats – these are mostly man made or man altered fats that show up in so many grocery store items. Although fats are necessary, these fats are not what you need. Sadly, they show up in so many cakes, candies, cookies, crackers, etc.
Nitrates – while nitrates themselves are harmless, they can convert to nitrites, which in turn convert to nitrosamines (a powerful cancer-causing chemical) in your body. When you do eat nitrate containing foods such as cured meats, be sure to drink a glass of orange juice to inhibit the conversion to nitrosamines in your digestive system.
Sodas – are such poor, lifeless drinks that do almost nothing for us. Packed with refined sugars or artificial sweeteners, chemicals, colorings and preservatives these drinks do not really fit the definition of food. Drinking sodas are really the result of high marketing traditions.
Chips and Such - highly heated fats are a prescription for digestive disasters. This shift into highly processed vegetable oils in the too often sad American diet may be adding to the increase in chronic diseases
Alcohol – this one would seem like a no brainer. Although it is possible to consume judicious amounts of alcohol wisely and safely, it is still the one beverage type that should be avoided in the presence of bodily illnesses.
At the Wholefood Farmacy, we have no such ingredients in any of our products. Wholefood Farmacy food products are snacks and meals that you can enjoy with peace of mind. We even offer an alternative to that end of the day cocktail or evening toddy in the ever healthful, Joule’ product. This 24kt gold, cinnamon, aloe vera cordial is very pleasing. Try it!
