The
website seems slow on my computer - what can I do?
The
speed with which information travels on the internet
has been doubling every 22 months since the 1990’s
and certain actions on your part are necessary to
keep your computer in step with the ever increasing
speed of the internet.
Each
computer runs an operating system the most common,
of course, being Microsoft Windows. Even though the
following “tips” are in reference to Microsoft Windows,
the “tips” also apply to users of other operating
systems as well. A small dose of “nutrition” for
your computer can assure that each visit to your Wholefood
Farmacy is a pleasant one.
DOWNLOADING
UPDATES
Microsoft
launched its Windows operating system in 1995, some
are still using it today. Each time Microsoft completes
a major set of improvements, Windows gets a new name. Windows
95 was the first which evolved into Windows 98. From
there we’ve seen Windows 2000, Windows ME (Millennium
Edition), and the latest version is Widows XP.
As
time passes and internet speed increases, Microsoft
releases FREE updates which are designed to keep your
computer up to date and secure. Surprisingly few people
are aware of, or even download these free updates
on a regular basis. You should check for updates on
a weekly basis and download them as they become available. Even
if you purchase a brand new computer with Windows
XP, there are already dozens of updates will that
need to be installed. Signs of computers needing updates
include:
- The
screen “locks up” – all of a sudden the mouse
and keyboard won’t work and you have to turn your
computer off – then back on again for it to work.
- Websites
seem to load slower and slower
- Visiting
secure areas such as your shopping cart seems
to take too long
Installing
updates is quick and easy. Click on your START button
then click on PROGRAMS – look for Windows Update,
click on it, and you’re on your way! If you’re not
sure how to do it - ask a friend, family member, or
neighbor to show you. If you have school age children
– they may even be able to help you. Your computer
needs its updates as much as you need water. Giving
your computer its updates will keep it in “optimal
health”.
INTERNET
EXPLORER
Internet
Explorer is the best browser to use when visiting
your Wholefood Farmacy website. If you use AOL or
NETSCAPE, you can still use Internet Explorer after
you get online. Once online, click on START then click
on PROGRAMS and your list of programs will display. The
Internet Explorer icon looks like a blue colored,
lower case letter “e” and the words “Internet Explorer”
will be listed to the right. Just click on the little
blue “e” and Internet Explorer will open. To go to
your website simply type your website address into
the white address bar near the top of the page – then
click on GO.
You

on the little blue “e”.
